Hannah-Pamplico High School Celebrates a SkillsUSA Medalists and South Carolina’s SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year

Christian Gage Godwin, a junior at Hannah-Pamplico High School, won a first-place award at the S.C.
State Leadership and Skill Competition held March 14-16 in Greenville, while the school’s automotive
teacher received the state’s top honor for advising.
Godwin placed first in Mobile Electronics Installation, and Durwin Bass was named S.C. SkillsUSA
Advisor of the Year.
The SkillsUSA Conference is an annual competition that features hundreds of outstanding career and
technical education students who compete in various trade, technical, and leadership fields. In addition to
the trade and technical competitions, a leadership competition tested contestants’ skills such as prepared
and extemporaneous speaking.
Godwin will move on to compete in the national SkillsUSA competition held this summer in Louisville, K.Y.
The SkillsUSA State Directors Association created the Advisor of the Year award to recognize and honor
dedicated career and technical education instructors who serve as SkillsUSA advisors.
Bass will now move to a regional selection for advisor of the year.
“We are very proud of Gage’s accomplishments and the hard work of Coach Bass,” said HannahPamplico High School Principal Sterling Mosby. “By showing their dedication to excellence in career and leadership skills, all of our students who participated in the SkillsUSA competitions are true champions at work.”
